PCCI is a community development effort to improve the residential and commercial environment along Peters Creek Parkway between Downtown and Silas Creek Parkway to benefit the residents who live along the parkway.

Since 2019, the PCCI has focused on bringing affordable housing to the intersection of Peters Creek Parkway and Academy Street.

In October 2022, we received $12 million in federal grants to assist with construction. Along with $3.7 million awarded to us by the City of Winston-Salem, we have raised enough funds to construct 62 units at the site of the old Budget Inn. We are currently working with developers to flesh out the project design and acquire all the necessary permits and supplies.

To support the work of the Peters Creek Community Initiative as we work toward a more equitable community with housing for all people, make a gift to The Shalom Project today, and designate your gift to Peters Creek Community Initiative.

According to a 2018 study, Winston-Salem is experiencing a housing crisis, falling 16,000 units short of needed affordable housing. That means that thousands of our neighbors are spending over 70% of their income on rent alone. We hope to maintain our rent in the range of $280-$850 a month, or about 30% of a tenant’s income.
